It's amazing that my class actually won this We the People competition.
We the People is a book that was handed out to us at the beginning of this year. We had to study all the lessons, and those lessons were exactly for this day.
You see, this was only to decide who would enter the State Competition. The real thing is on January 10th.
We were placed into six different groups that consisted of different political/civics subjects. My group was Unit 6, which talked about what role ctizenship plays in society. Other groups included religion and government, the New Jersey and Virginia Plans, and other topics.
We were each given a paper with three questions or so on it. They were questions about your subject. You had to make a prepared statement about the questions. For us, we only had to do two questions. So we had to research and take a stand on the questions. When facing the judges, we had to make our prepared statement that would last until 4 minutes, which is the limited time we have to read our prepared statement. The judges have 6 minutes to ask you questions based on your subject.
My my my. There were 3 or 4 judges that judged every unit. There was one particular judge that intimidated me and the rest of my team. It was the Civics teacher on the Flames team, which is opposite of Explorers [which I'm on and we rock]. She used to be the Pre-Algebra teacher for 6th grade two years ago... Dude. She made me cry twice, and she's a pretty scary person.
While the judges were asking questions, she was all like, "What percentage of the population are high-school dropouts and do not have their high school diploma? How are the literacy tests going to be distributed and who is at the right level to take them? Who is going to pay for taking the literacy tests? Where will they be taken?" She was, like, a cat...and we were the mice. And she already had us in her claws, but let us go once we proved to be unedible.
Basically, we went through Hell and ended up in Heaven. =]
But anyway, we have to go to State Championships because my entire A1 class won. It sucks. I mean, it's nice that we won, and we can say, "HAH. We have a better understanding of Civics than you!!!" But really. The We the People thing is, like, a pain in the REAR, yo. Seriously. XD
